An awesome recap video created by one of our star student volunteers, David Walker! About 90 students got together and packed, checked, wrote letters, packaged, and moved over 1300 backpacks for at-risk-youth! So awesome!

Parents Camp Letter from HSM

Hi parents!

We are excited and exhausted! I’m sure your kids are beat, too! What an amazing and packed week filled with friendships, spiritual challenges, games, baptisms, hot springs, music and food. Last night was the big finish - the finale of a truly great week!

We’ve been up at Murrieta Springs all week centering on the theme Fulfilled. Our speaker was Ron Merrell (Check out his blog here), who shared stories from his life and the book of Haggai to talk about us being fulfilled by God, escaping the emptiness inside all of us. Taffy and Cluster of Students did an amazing job leading us in worship (Check them out on iTunes).

We hope that you and your student spend some time with you talking about camp and the decisions they made before they jump back into their world. Maybe catch a ballgame or grab dinner and just talk about camp together – I can’t wait for you to hear their stories and share their decisions with you in their own words.

Here are a few things you could talk about, a few questions to get you started:

What struck you about Ron’s messages?
Who was your counselor? What did you learn from him/her?
How was the afternoon at Mulligan’s Family Fun Center?
When did you laugh the most?
Did you make any spiritual decisions this week?
What song was the most meaningful to you? Why?
What did you do during the free time?
What kind of friends did you make?
On a scale of 1 to 10, how good was the food at camp?
Did you miss me?

The buses are gone and the campus is now quiet, but we’re trusting God the decisions made this week will last for a lifetime. Thanks for sending your high school student to HSM Summer Camp – it is such a worthy investment – I’m sure you saw that in their smiles and exhausted eyes when they got off the bus.

PS: Send them to HSM this weekend! It is a great way to get them connected immediately after summer camp. Services at Lake Forest are in the Refinery - Saturday nights 4:30 or 6:30 and Sunday mornings 9 or 11:15.

HSM summer camp parent update: just finished an early lunch! Heading to Mulligan’s family fun center for an afternoon of games, go-karts and laser tag. Woohoo!

Crazy idea … Want to embarrass your teenager just a little bit? I’m looking for a few funny messages to read from parents to specific students in one of the last 2 morning devotions. Just leave a comment here (or reply to any of the HSM text updates) and hopefully I can use it as a funny bit sometime during summer camp. You’re the best!

Amazing Start to Camp!

The first 48 hours of HSM Summer Camp have been incredible!

Here are some of the quick highlights:

The students are incredible! So many great attitudes, smiles and friendships. Be proud of your teenager, everyone is behaving, having fun, laughing and starting to open up about life with their cabin leader.

The food is incredible! Dinner is served each night family style and the quality has been awesome. Hard to call it camp food it tastes so good!

The speaker is incredible! Ron Merrel is doing a super job teaching from the book of Haggai in the Bible. The workshops have been awesome. The morning devotions start their day with God. Cabin time is the most important hour of the day.

So basically, things are incredible! More updates as we get them …
